As much a nature preserve as a ski resort, Canaan Valley Resort & Conference Center, established by the state park system, is protected from development, and includes 18 miles of trail for hiking, biking, and cross-country skiing.
The resort is named for the highland valley it shares with Timberline Resort, six miles north, and is also a popular getaway for Washington-Baltimore Metro skiers.
